Not so Random Quote :"The difference between a brave man and a coward is a coward thinks twice before jumping in the cage with a lion. The brave man doesn't know what a lion is. He just thinks he does."~Charles Bukowski
So yeahtoday Quita and my boss was being an idiot. He fired Akeem for almost no reason. And then he was treating everyone like slaves. Amato even started calling us Slave Girls as a joke about how Quita and I set everything up (which is a supervisor job I believe) and how he expects us to work the entire night and then put everything away. Quita and I are not the only people that work there. I can understand that the refs have been running the whole night so obviously they shouldn't be in charge of that. On the other hand there are usually 2 other scorekeepers and also 2 supervisors that usually sit around and do nothing...I ask you, why must Kim and Quita always do it? Anyway the rest is pretty much summed up in Quita's letter which I will post here.
Jaime,
I believe that we need to have some words. I would like to begin by saying
that it takes a lot to make me angry and you can ask anyone who knows me.
Tonight after your argument with Akeem, you walked back into your office,
looked around, and just said "chairs". Then when we were leaving, you bumped
into Kim on your way out of the door without saying excuse me. There is no way
that you could not have seen her and your actions were rude. This brings me to
the subject of my email. There are several people, including me, who have
considered quitting, especially after the deal with Akeem tonight. One thing
that I, and several others, have noticed is that you treat the people who are
total slackers better than the ones who you can always depend on. Kim and I
always show up when you need us whether we are on the schedule or not. We have
been hard workers down to the last minute. We get there 30 minutes early and
even set up before the supervisor gets there. This in itself should earn us at
least a little bit of your respect. Ever since volleyball your entire attitude
has changed. When I first met you, I could not think of a more agreeable boss.
Now I wouldn't even suggest that my friends come work for you because I don't
want them to be treated as if they are nobody and can be replaced at any time.
As an employee, I believe I should do my job to the fullest. I also believe
that if I am showing up to save your butt week in and week out, you should at
least acknowledge that. Kim does the same thing that I do, when you need her
she is there. We have totally cleared our schedules so that you would not have
to stress over a lack of scorekeepers, refs, or supervisors. Tonight, I
seriously wanted to just walk out and I would have. However, it is my belief
that you need me (since I am one of the few who actually show up to work). If
this were not the case then I would have been gone and Amato and Ralph can
vouch for me. I did not plan on coming back this Spring after the mess that I
put up with I will gladly leave. However, I would like to let you know that if
and when I do leave, three other people will be walking out of the door with
me. This is not random, a lot of people have been discussing it since the
beginning of this semester. We deserve to be treated like people. How can you
demand our respect when we are not receiving yours?
-Quita-
